1. Why this notice exists
Identity verification is the one part of TraIDCred that involves a government photo ID and a photograph of your face. It is performed by a third party, not by TraIDCred, and the boundary between what that provider does and what TraIDCred does is the most important thing on this page.
You are shown this notice, and asked to acknowledge it, before verification begins.
2. Who performs the verification
Identity verification is performed by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe") using Stripe Identity. It takes place entirely on Stripe's own pages, which you are sent to from TraIDCred and returned from afterwards.
3. What Stripe does
On Stripe's pages, and under Stripe's own terms and privacy policy, Stripe:
- captures images of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID and assesses whether
the document appears authentic;
- captures a photograph of your face (a selfie) and compares it against the photo on that ID
using biometric technology — that is, by measuring distinctive physical characteristics of your face — to assess whether the ID belongs to you;
- collects and validates identifying details from the document, such as name and date of birth.
Stripe asks for your consent before collecting and using your biometric information, on its own pages, as part of that flow. TraIDCred does not collect that consent and does not stand in for it. Stripe also offers a separate, optional choice about whether Stripe may use your data to improve its own verification technology; that choice is yours and is made with Stripe.
Stripe retains the images and the verification data it collects, under Stripe's own retention practices and privacy policy — not under TraIDCred's. See https://stripe.com/privacy.
4. What TraIDCred receives, and what it never receives
From a completed verification TraIDCred receives only:
- the verification status and its timestamps;
- Stripe's machine-readable error code, where a verification did not succeed; and
- on success only, your verified first and last name.
TraIDCred uses the verified name for one purpose: determining whether it reasonably matches the name the verification is for — the representative name on the business profile, or, if you are completing the license qualifier ceremony, the legal name you confirmed as your own and the qualifier named on the licensing authority's public record (see the License Qualifier Authorization Terms; nothing about that ceremony is displayed publicly and no photo is involved). That comparison is automated, and is decided by a person at TraIDCred where the automated result is not clear-cut. The verified name is never displayed publicly and is not written to TraIDCred's logs. It is cleared if the verification stops being valid.
TraIDCred never receives, stores, or displays your government ID image or your selfie. TraIDCred does not request or store your date of birth, your address, your identification number, or Stripe's complete verification output.
TraIDCred performs no facial comparison, biometric matching, or biometric processing of any kind, anywhere in the platform. The only such comparison is the one Stripe performs on its own systems, described in §3.
5. The public photo is a different thing entirely
The representative photograph shown on a public Trust Profile is supplied by you and uploaded to TraIDCred separately. A TraIDCred reviewer approves it for public display on the basis of suitability alone — that it plausibly shows one individual rather than a logo, a vehicle, a jobsite, a group, or a stock image.
⚠️ That photograph is never compared against Stripe's ID image or selfie. No such comparison is performed, by TraIDCred or by Stripe. A photo shown beside an "Identity Verified" indicator is recognisable-face information you chose to publish — not the output of a biometric match.
6. What "Identity Verified" does and does not mean
It means the two things in §3 and §4 both happened: Stripe confirmed an identity against a government photo ID, and TraIDCred determined the verified name reasonably matched the representative named on the profile, on the date shown.
It is not a statement about licensing, insurance, skill, workmanship, conduct, criminal history, or who will be assigned to any job. It is not a background check — TraIDCred does not perform those. It concerns one person's identity only, it is not the same as TraIDCred Verified, and it does not contribute to the "Fully Verified" designation.
7. Retention, deletion, and withdrawing consent
- At TraIDCred. The status, timestamps, error code and verified name are retained in accordance
with the Data Retention Policy. The verified name is cleared when a verification stops being valid. To request deletion of what TraIDCred holds, contact privacy@traidcred.com.
- At Stripe. Stripe holds your ID image, your selfie, and the rest of its verification record
under Stripe's own terms and privacy policy, and TraIDCred cannot delete them from Stripe on your behalf. On request, TraIDCred will redact the verification session, which instructs Stripe to delete the personal information associated with it; Stripe states this can take up to four days and cannot be undone. You should also contact Stripe directly — at privacy@stripe.com or https://support.stripe.com — to request deletion of data Stripe holds in its own right, or to withdraw the optional consent described in §3.
8. If you cannot or prefer not to verify this way
Identity verification through Stripe is currently the only method TraIDCred offers, and a business cannot publish a public Trust Profile without it. There is no automated alternative today. If you are unable to complete verification, or you prefer not to be verified using biometric technology, contact support@traidcred.com and TraIDCred will discuss the options available. Declining does not affect any other part of your account.
9. Changes
This notice is versioned. A material change produces a new version, and the acknowledgment is collected again before the next verification begins.
